This is a scratch built of mine of the "Sultana". She was a Mississippi River packet 660 GRT, 260' x 42' x 7' built in 1863. Early on the morning of April 27th 1865, a few miles north of Memphis Tennessee, her boilers exploded. She had almost 1900 aboard, five times her legal capacity, and most of them were just released union POWs from Andersonville prison. In the conflagration and sinking that followed 1547 of them were lost. That makes this the worst American ship disaster in history.
