Civil War Ship Models By Thoroughbred Figures

Civil War ship models by Thoroughbred Figures. Thoroughbred Figures produces metal castings in a variety of sizes including a line of thirty-one different 1:1200 American Civil War ships. I recently obtained six of these models. The ships come in unfinished kit form, although frankly the word "kit" is too liberally applied, as there is little or nothing to assemble. The primary task for the collector is painting, and if desired, the addition of further details. With regards to the six that I received, I did nothing additional to three of them, but did a fair amount of additional detailing to the other three, as you will note by comparing the photos of mine to those in the Thoroughbred Figures website: www.Thoroughbredmodels.com.

Aside from gluing on the funnel, TT 206 MONITOR (late version) simply required paint.

TT TIMBERCLAD represents USS TYLER and CONESTOGA.  Although assembly merely required gluing on the funnels, I added rigging and masts.

TT 230 USS LEXINGTON, like TIMBERCLAD required only the funnels to be glued on.  But I added boats, rigging and masts.

TT 213 USS NEOSHO.  This river monitor required minimal assembly, the addition of the pilot house aft.  I added details however.

I enjoyed doing the paint work and additional detailing to these models, and am very pleased with the results.  The castings are very nicely detailed and required no clean-up whatsoever.  There was no flash to remove and no preparation work required aside from the very minor assembly of some models, usually just the placement of funnels.  If you want to add boats, you'll have to supply your own, as well as any masts, rigging etc.  But for those who don't want to do additional details, the basic models look great just as they are.  As one can see on their website the models are very reasonably priced.  Many Civil War collectors among us already have some of these models that were made by Aquarius, Langton, Star and others, but for those who don't have those, or want to fill in gaps these are highly recommended.
